Charlotta Lundgren — A Volunteer for God

"There was once a girl sitting on a bench on the fourth row in a church on a hill in the capital of Finland. She was wearing a fancy dress and a pair of shiny black shoes. I don’t think she really knew what was going on; her dad was playing the organ as people were kneeling at the altar and her grandfather was handing out “communion” to all of them. He was dressed in a long black jacket that had a small white square on the collar: he was the pastor. He usually stood up there every Sunday talking about all kind of things none of which was really interesting or relevant to the little girl, because all she really knew was that she was supposed to be quiet. While trying to move into a more comfortable position, this knowledge was strongly underlined by angry glances her way when her lovely shoe suddenly hit the bench with a Bang."

Well, my name is Charlotta Lundgren and I’m the youth delegate to the DMYP from the Central Conference of Northern Europe and Eurasia. I was chosen for this assignment since I at the time of election was chairing the Youth Council of Northern Europe – NMYC. At that time I was also chairing my national Youth board, which is the Youth board of the Swedish speaking Methodist Church in Finland. Right now I’m writing from Jerusalem, Israel, I’m having a break in my work for the UMC in Finland and have taken a couple of months off work to serve at the ICEJ (International Christian Embassy of Jerusalem) and the Feast of Tabernacles. Every year they organize a huge event for thousands of Christians that come from all over the world to serve and praise God in Jerusalem and to bless His chosen people on site. I’ve spent the last years wondering how I can serve God with my profession, and finally found one way here. Since I graduated in the area of clothing design, I am helping here to sew all the costumes for the worship team, musicians and dancers that also serve at the Feast. I’ve only just begun, but it’s been a blessing to be in this country and amongst these people that are on fire for God and willing to give of their time and money to serve Him and His people in this way. All though you come, bringing the work of your hands, you get to leave with so many more blessings.

Shalom,
Charlotta
