I fully endorse the positions of the UMC as outlined in By Water and the Spirit and This Holy Mystery. I very much believe we should move toward weekly communion in our services. This can be done in my traditional services using the traditional liturgy. However, my contemporary worship service is a group that would NOT find liturgy and responsive reading to be helpful or even worshipful. Moving from a praise and worship service, lead by a praise team and band, into a read responsive reading for communion or baptisms for that matter would be a massive jar to the flow of worship. Yes, I know there are musical settings, but none of them are written to be lead by a praise band. Are there any suggestions on how to keep the integrity of the great thanksgiving and communion liturgy without using response readings?
