I moved the bible from the altar table when I first was appointed here (almost 5 yrs ago.) After some dialogue, people seemed to 'get it,' that's its the Lord's Table, not a book stand or a flower stand. I always say that we can be pretty sure of one thing when the bible is on the altar table... it will not be read that day.
But the issue keeps coming up every so often.
I celebrate the fact that this concern is about the bible, our book, THE book... and its place in our community life. But am I missing something here? It's not like our people are flocking to bible studies or anything.
How do you help people transition to new understandings? Thanks for any insights.
Shalom
