is a two-day event designed to explore the meaning and practice of discipleship and disciple-making in the Wesleyan tradition. In 2009 the West Ohio and California-Pacific Conferences will host a Wesleyan Institute. Both events are a partnership with GBOD.
The first of the Wesleyan Institutes will be held April 23-25, 2009, at Faith Community United Methodist Church in Xenia, OH. The topic of the event will be "The United Methodist Way." The keynote speaker will be Paul W. Chilcote, Professor of Historical Theology and Wesleyan Studies at Ashland Theological Seminary. Other speakers will be Daniel Flores, Sandra M. King-Shaw, and Steven W. Manskar.
The second Wesleyan Institute will be held October 22-24, 2009, at Holman United Methodist Church in Los Angeles, CA. The event is titled "Opening Ourselves to Grace" and will focus on the means of grace in the Wesleyan tradition, shaped by the General Rule of Discipleship. Keynote speaker will be the Rev. Dan Benedict, author of Patterned by Grace and Come to the Waters (published by Discipleship Resources). Other featured speakers will be Mary Elizabeth Moore, Andy Dreitcer, Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar, Steven W. Manskar, and others.
