On November 1, 2008, Steven Manskar, Director of Accountable Discipleship and Editor of the CDQ, will begin a 3 1/2-month study leave. He will be working on a writing project focused on disciple-making in the Wesleyan tradition. Steve will return to his office at GBOD on February 15, 2009.
The Rev. Dr. Vicki Brendler has agreed to edit the January and February editions of the new Covenant Discipleship Connection. She is the pastor of Bridgewater United Methodist Church in Bridgewater, New Jersey, and co-chairperson of the Council for Accountable Discipleship. The other co-chairperson is Sandra M. King-Shaw of Asbury United Methodist Church in Washington, DC.
The Rev. Brendler has extensive experience with Covenant Discipleship. When she served as a district superintendent in the Greater New Jersey Annua; Conference, she encouraged all the pastors in the district to meet in Covenant Discipleship groups. She has been a leader in the Council for Accountable Discipleship for many years.
The Council for Accountable Discipleship (aka, CFAD) is an affiliate organization of the General Board of Discipleship (GBOD). The Council serves as an advocate for Accountable Discipleship across The United Methodist Church. They are lay and clergy leaders who have experience with Covenant Discipleship groups and serve as advocates for the ministry in their respective districts and conferences.
If you are interested in learning more about CFAD and perhaps becoming a CFAD member, please contact Dr. Brendler at vmbrendler@bridgewaterumc.org or Sandra King-Shaw at sandraumc@verizon.net.
