Fall Semester 2004
Covenant Group 1
Preamble
Desiring to live a Christian life, not merely to 'be Christians,' but to live the life and progressive growth of a disciple, desiring to lead others to Christ through our example, believing God's Holy Spirit called us together and led us to develop these clauses in order to begin our journey in covenant discipleship, and believing these are the types of things true disciples do, we choose to accept the call of God's Holy Spirit, recognizing the sacrifice Jesus made for us. We pledge our commitment to the covenant clauses below.
We believe this is part of our "reasonable service" to our God, the Great "1 Am."
Covenant Clauses
Acts of Compassion
We will be available and attentive to those in need.
We will express genuine appreciation and encouragement to at least one person each day.
Acts of Justice
In social settings, we will make a conscious effort to meaningfully interact with at least one person of an ethnic background that is different from our own.
We will foster justice in every situation revealed to us by God's Holy Spirit.
When led by God's Holy Spirit, we will speak out against injustices in whatever form they present themselves.
Acts of Devotion
We will spend a minimum of 20 minutes a day in time alone with God.
We will be in intercessory prayer for at least 10 people each day.
Acts of Worship
We will join in corporate worship with other believers on a regular basis.
We will pray for those who visit our churches and make an effort to welcome them in Christian love.
Spiritual Promptings and Warnings
We will seek to be wholly led by the promptings and warnings of God's Holy Spirit in the areas of each of our covenant clauses.
Conclusion
I hereby make my commitment, recognizing and celebrating the power of walking together as disciples of Jesus Christ, pledging to help and encourage my covenant discipleship group teammates in our commitment to our covenant clauses.
