Covenant Preamble
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is — his good. pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2)
In gratitude for the grace of Jesus Christ, in whose death and resurrection we have found new life and whose call in our lives we have answered, we pledge to be his disciples. We humbly offer our time, abilities, resources, brokenness, and will to God in order that God's kingdom may bear fruit in us and in the world. We covenant together to exemplify Christ's vision for the church, reaching out to everyone as a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ through the anointing of the Holy Spirit. To this end, we therefore covenant with each other in the following acts of discipleship and promise to hold each accountable with Christian love and support.
Acts of Compassion
- I will practice seeing Christ in those around me and being Christ to those I come into contact with each day.
- Realizing the stress and burden that this part of my Christian journey can have upon my life, I will strive to develop a healthy balance of personal/public/study/spiritual/recreation time and ensure that I spend quality time each day with those I love.
Acts of Worship
- I will participate in weekly corporate worship, striving for true involvement, and faithfully and prayerfully participate in Communion when it is offered.
- I will work to develop the discipline of family worship in the knowledge that God has blessed us with our families as our greatest support; therefore, my family should seek to have a time to come together in worship and prayer before God as a family.
Acts of Devotion
- I will be consistent in the giving of my time, gifts, and talents to the body of Christ.
- I will work to develop and maintain a time of daily personal Scripture reading and prayer.
- We will read a common devotional daily that we may feel bonded even when apart in prayer and devotion to God and each other.
- We will lift each other up to God in intercessory prayer daily in order that we may be bonded in the Spirit before our Lord and draw strength from that spiritual union.
Acts of Justice
- I will seek to develop habits in my Christian walk that enable me to participate in some form of an act of justice on a regular basis.
- I will strive to provide a Christian response when acts of injustice occur around me.
- I will dedicate myself to learning more about social justice issues in the hopes of finding new ways that I may serve God's people.
"And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. " (Micah 6:8)
