background

A Covenant from Christ United Methodist Church, Rochester, MN

With love and thanksgiving for God's gifts of creation and grace, we join together in our commitment to strive toward discipleship. With support and love for one another, we will pray together, study together, help one another grow in discernment, and affirm one another's gifts.

Seeking to continue developing our relationship with God, we promise:

Justice:

  1. To practice responsible stewardship of the world's resources that we use.
  2. To recognize injustice and to work to correct the causes through prayer, intervention, providing information to others, and by giving of time and resources.
  3. To identify and select four projects annually, two local and two international, to support through the gifts in our mission box.
  4. To visit the hungersite.com each day and donate to it and the other causes through clicking donation buttons.
  5. To pray for and promote peace in the world.

Compassion:

  1. To seek personal growth by focusing time and resources to God's purposes.
  2. To exercise healthy emotional and physical habits.
  3. To strive for a balance of our time devoted to church, school, work, family, and friends.
  4. To practice listening as a ministry of grace.
  5. To demonstrate love in unloving circumstances.

Worship:

  1. To attend worship each week.
  2. To take Communion as we have the opportunity and to participate as a time of restoration.
  3. To pray daily for one another, for our congregation, and for the leaders of the church — locally and globally.
  4. To enhance and empower the Sunday worship of Christ UMC, we will pray individually, in our homes, before joining the congregation in its services.

Devotion:

  1. To daily seek awareness of God's presence and share Alleluia moments with others.
  2. To read and meditate on the lectionary passages and The Upper Room Disciplines each week.
  3. To practice discernment through daily devotions and journaling of spiritual insights.
  4. To share our covenant experience with others and to find ways to encourage the formation of similar covenant groups.
