This covenant was written by a group of clergy members of the Pasadena District of the California-Pacific Annual Conference. They meet on Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m.
Having been called by Jesus Christ to be disciples, with awe and trembling hearts, we answer this call as Elders in The United Methodist Church. This group shall exist for the purpose of support, and watching over one another in love so that we are encouraged to work out our own salvation and the healing and wholeness of our congregations. To this end we accept the call to love the world more fully.
I will worship each Sunday unless prevented.
We will share weekly in the Sacrament of Holy Communion.
We will prayerfully uphold one another in our Sunday worship.
I will read and study the Scriptures each week and will meditate upon them, allowing the Spirit to make them personal.
I will return to Christ cheerfully as I receive from Christ.
I will seek to learn from the poor and disadvantaged and to be in communion with them.
When I am aware of injustice to others, I will not remain silent.
I will obey the promptings of the Holy Spirit to serve God and my neighbor.
I will heed the warnings of the Holy Spirit not to sin against God and my neighbor.
I will prayerfully care for my body and the world in which I live.
I herby make my commitment, trusting in the grace of God to give me the will and the strength to keep this covenant.
